Dr Ferreira’s doctoral research focused on markets for biodiversity offsets. The resulting thesis brought together Social Studies of Finance and Neo-Polanyian Instituted Economic Process approaches to identify the generative mechanisms involved in the creation of these markets. This doctoral research was funded by the Sustainable Consumption Institute, University of Manchester. Carlos’ research interests focus primarily on how economies are made and changed, with an evolving interest in how alternative economic spaces and actors are imagined and constructed. Located at the intersection of business and policy, his work explores two main topics: how to deliver sustainable, inclusive and smart regional economic development; and how data and humans come together in business environments. Dr. Carlos Ferreira is Co-PI in the ReSSI project, and PI in the Consumers and Biodiversity Offsets project.
