In this troubled time on earth the need for healing involves the individual soul, collective humanity, and the earth itself. As accepted patterns dissolve and uncertainty grows, we become more vulnerable to feelings of insecurity and anxiety, fear and anger. As the ego and the rational mind reel from irrational blows and emotional storms, it becomes necessary to find deeper connections to our true sense of self and soul.
Wholeness and unity are the secret aims of trouble and conflict, but genuine transformation requires that we descend to the inner-underworld of soul. What most upsets us also troubles the waters of our souls where the vital energies of emotion can lead us to the inner work needed for us to individuate and grow more soul.
Emotions are part of the life-giving water of the soul that allows us to shift states and respond authentically to the troubles of life. Emotions move us because they contain energizing, connecting and healing energies. Healthy anger can strengthen us, fear can protect as well as awaken us, and sorrow can lead to rejuvenation. In that sense, emotions have been called “divine influxes” and can also be understood as messages from our deep self and soul.
Our psychic wounds and related emotions secretly connect us to the transcendent function of the deep self, as what wounds us can also initiate and transform us. Emotions are part of the natural dynamics of human life intended to keep us awake, connected to our own souls and to the Soul of the World.
