Deep Positivity: Re-reading Jung’s Self and Introducing a Post-Post-Jungian Era

In the talk, Dr. Heuer will introduce deep positivity as a view of the world that is both novel and necessary. It is new because it is based in leading edge quantum and complexity theories. It is also necessary for healing. Dr. Heuer sees this as one of the most important things she has learned in 40 years of clinical practice. Importantly, it is also borne out by neuroscience. Quantum theory boggles the mind, because it entails higher conceptual complexity. We enter a world no longer made up of opposites, light and shadow, yin and yang, because they have been transcended, yet, to a degree, are retained at the same time.

Jung’s archetypes, though, entail stark opposites for they possess both a benevolent and a destructive face. Dr. Heuer will explain how this is problematic from a psychotherapeutic point of view and why we need a completely benign trope, such as deep positivity, for healing. Jung’s central archetype, the Self, in particular needs updating from a deep positivity point of view. The Self is our intrinsic connection with the Divine and, in very simple terms, if this conflates good and evil, we can never be safe enough to heal. Therefore, Jung’s Self needs to be re-read from a deep positivity point of view which is trans-dualistic. I will explain how this heralds a post-post-Jungian era.
