Overview

Given the increasing partisanship in our society, it is more essential than ever that we consider the diverse backgrounds, life experiences and viewpoints of others, and interact with our fellow human beings with compassion and empathy. This 9-month reading/discussion course provides over a dozen readings from a wide array of individuals–Blacks, women, emigrants, whistleblowers, “blue state” liberals, “red state” conservatives, sociologists, historians and journalists–that paint portraits of lives very different from our own. In our first session we consider what “empathy” means, and how it has become the subject of scientific study in recent years. Each session thereafter takes up a different perspective or experience likely to be unfamiliar to us

A link for the Zoom sessions will be sent to all registrants via email. Recordings of the session will be made available to all registered participants, to register, email us: [email protected].
