Exploring the Spine, Nervous System, and Subtle Energy: From Concept to Experience

What does it mean to be self aware? Since ancient times, traditions all over the world have acknowledged that to know ourselves can be a complicated endeavor – one that involves developing a functional perspective on the ways our bodies and minds (together, our “gross” body) access, move, and are affected by energy (in and through a more “subtle” body). Many conceptual frameworks – chakras, nadis, qi meridians, and psychosomatic understandings of the importance of the spine and the nervous system – have each been developed to help shed light on this endeavor. Our presenters will paint a picture of this vast conceptual landscape in order to contextualize eastern and western theory in a practical way, so that we may gently develop a more personal, and powerful, relationship with self awareness. During the course of our time together, we will discuss and explore these systems with the intention of then utilizing the frameworks we discover to explore the physical, energetic, and psycho-emotional bodies in movement practice.
