Jung and UFOs

“I do not believe and do not disbelieve in the existence of UFOs.
I simply do not know what to think about their alleged physical existence.”

—CG Jung, Letters Vol. II
Carl Jung’s Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth of Things Seen in the Skies intrigues readers to think about the psychological, instead of the physical reality of UFOs.This short book, which may ambitiously be an introductory text to analytical psychology, was written during the beginning of the Cold War. Jung looks at the many reactions both individuals and societies have when confronted with this phenomena. We will discuss why, in light of recent media reports of UFOs, Jung’s words are important to be reviewed. We will also discuss why Jung’s ideas of mandalas and synchronicity are important to the text.
