The process of individuation according to Marie-Louise von Franz is “the psychological process of inner growth and centralization by which the individual finds its own Self.” (Von Franz, 1977) This is not to be confused however with the egoic self or identity but is rather seen in Jungian psychology as an “ultimately unknowable inner centre” or a new God-image, “the God within us.” Rose will be our guide as we view Vol. 1 and discuss von Franz’s perspectives of individuation.
