I am honoured to share my experience of Focusing with you. I have practiced and taught this process for over 25 years; it has enriched my life in so many ways. I remain astonished with how this simple process can transform and heal those who engage with it.
During our session we will look at what I refer to as a category mistake that may occur when we interact with the emotional/embodied dimensions of human experiencing. This mistake becomes apparent when we try to deal with the felt experience of the world in the same way as we deal with the rational or conceptual elements of living.
Focusing offers us the opportunity to interact with this felt dimension in a safe and gentle way. This process implies a different sense of the human body – we will explore this difference, exploring how this experience of the human body connects us to ourselves, to others, and to the larger process we all participate in, in a way that rational understanding alone may struggle to achieve.
We will explore the importance of the “vague” and “not yet known” in Focusing and discuss how this process can change from a “tool” to an instinct to embrace the felt aspects of our living.
Focusing is offered to augment what you do and understand, rather than any kind of substitution or critique of the same. It offers an expanded perspective where the felt/experiential aspects of living can be balanced with rational understanding of that living. With this in mind, we will explore the theory of Focusing during our time together, but we will also engage in experiential exercises that offer this balance between the rational and the experiential.
It is my hope that you will be able to join us for this adventure into embodied cognition.
