The Ram – and his child, the Lamb – figure prominently in many early Western mythologies. There is the woolly-headed ram with curved horns adapted early on by the Theban Egyptians; the supernatural ram sent by Zeus to save children from their wicked stepmother, which furnishes the golden fleece that draws heroic Jason; and there is the Lamb of God, the sacrificed Christ.
