    José has an M.A in Jungian and Post-Jungian Studies from the University of Essex, where Andrew Samuels was his academic supervisor, and an MSc in Systemic Psychotherapy from the Milton Erikson Institute from Monterrey. Since 2013, he has trained with Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés. He works as a psychotherapist in private practice and writes the column ‘The Spiritually Ambivalent Therapist’ for Thresholds, a Journal of Psychotherapy and Spirituality, from the British Association of Counseling and Psychotherapy.

The descent of Inanna is one of the oldest myths about the journey to the underworld. Embarking upon a trail of sacrifice and loss, Inanna encounters the same forces active in us when profound suffering accompanies the unleashing of long-repressed aspects of ourselves. In this seminar, analyze Inanna’s descent to understand the moments in life when we face a loss of our social role (or persona), confront the silent traumas we share with our siblings, or are forced to think about transformation and death. With this ancient goddess, we’ll explore the sacrifices we’ve made – or need to make – in exchange for entering into an unknown process, the ways we confront the opposites we carry within us, and the deaths we live when we enter the unconscious, looking for new life.
