Alice Cowley has worked as a psychodynamic counsellor in the NHS and in training at WPF Therapy, and is now a psychoanalytic psychotherapist on private practice, and a member of the PPA. Until recently she ran the PPA Reading Discussion Group, where, during lockdown, the group discussed the difficulties of retreat, trauma and repair, with the help of psychoanalytic papers, under the particular pressure of the Pandemic. The current paper arises from that preliminary thinking, and from observations made in her clinical work, and is intended to stimulate thinking and further discussion of the uncharted territory we find ourselves in, post-Covid.
