Eranos Conference 2025: Chaos and Cosmos in the Modern Age

The prestigious Eranos Foundation will host its 2025 conference from September 11-13, at Casa Eranos in Ascona-Moscia, Switzerland, titled Kaos/Kosmos: The Shadow of Light and the Light of the Shadow – A Tribute for the 150th Anniversary of C.G. Jung’s Birth. This gathering explores the fundamental tension between chaos and order in contemporary life, asking whether we still know what respect means and if we’re capable of genuine community in our technologically ordered yet disorienting world.

The conference features four distinguished speakers addressing this theme from multiple perspectives. Murray Stein  will deliver the opening lectures on Through Chaos to Cosmos: The Legacy of C.G. Jung, examining the loss of soul in modernity’s chaos and pathways toward cosmic order through Jung’s individuation process. Joseph Cambray will present Opening the Cosmogonic Imagination: Approaching Singularities, bridging creation myths with contemporary physics and exploring how cosmic eggs appear in both ancient narratives and Jung’s Red Book. Franco Ferrari  will examine From Chaos to Cosmos: Plato’s Timaeus, providing philosophical foundations by analyzing the Western tradition’s foundational text on the relationship between disorder and order. Patrizia Caraveo will present In Our Universe, Light and Shadow are Inextricably Intertwined, exploring how astronomy uses light to map dark matter and the enigmatic nature of black holes.

The conference includes an innovative doctoral seminar featuring eleven presentations by emerging scholars from universities across Italy, Switzerland, and Prague. These presentations range from “Synchronicity between Carl Gustav Jung and Gilles Deleuze to “Generative Artificial Intelligence between Chaos and Cosmos,” demonstrating the continued relevance of these ancient themes to contemporary challenges. Since 2021, the conference has been dedicated to Peter Anton Miescher, a pioneering immunologist, and his wife Annatina, whose friendship and donation enable this annual exploration of universal themes including art, spirituality, and the meaning of life in our chaotic times.
