Overview

By following the breadcrumbs left by von Franz in the Beginner Fairy Tale Analysis course, we came to deepen our appreciation for the wisdom found in these stories and how each story speaks to an archetypal passage in life.

Building on the profundity of this insight, a central focus in the Advanced and Master Fairy Tale program, will be the study of the opening scene of the tale. Here one learns how the opening initial conditions of the story informs us about the nature of the archetype around which the story is configured, while also foretelling the nature of the journey. In addition, this study of the beginning of the tale allows us to see how each image, scene and subsequent development forms part of an archetypally coherent story.

Continuing into the Advanced & Master Fairy Tale course allows for a deepening of our understanding of the archetypal meaning of these stories. Through an in-depth working with the themes and characters in the story, we will come to see how each carries a very specific, spiritual message from the Self, teaching us about life, love, destiny and individuation.

This course will focus on fairy tales from cultures, providing a broader understanding of how the psyche works through multiple layers of cultural influences. Advanced & Master students will have the opportunity to translate a tale with guided supervision, and then to present their work at The Fairy Tale Conference in May.

Included in the Course:

  • 10 Faculty-led sessions that include translations of these stories by Senior Faculty Members of The Assisi Institute.
  • A focus will be placed on comparative translations where several tales will be juxtaposed to emphasize the high degree of discernment in each translation and the ability to recognize the presence of universal, archetypal motifs in fairy tales.
  • Tuition for and participation in the Assisi Institute’s Fairy Tale Conference, is included in the enrollment fee for the Advanced & Masters Fairy Tale Certification Course. I.e., students enrolled for the Advanced/Masters Fairy Tale course are automatically enrolled for the conference at no additional cost.
  • The Fairy Tale Conference May 23 and 24, 2025, and will include a keynote speaker and presentations from selected Master Fairy Tale students’ original interpretation of fairy tales.

Total of 10 regular classes. All sessions take place bi-weekly on Tuesday from 7:30pm – 9:00pm (US Eastern Time).
