DARK RELIGION: FUNDAMENTALISM FROM THE PERSPECTIVE OF JUNGIAN PSYCHOLOGY

Vlado Solc
Scheduled course
In-person

Overview

In this workshop, we will explore the psychological phenomena and dynamics underlying conspiracy theories and Dark religion: how the Self influences the way the ego holds on to non-credible beliefs, including fundamentalist conspiracy theories. We will identify differences between spirituality and Dark religion, and consider the basic Jungian idea of numinosum.

Additionally, we will examine the unconscious dynamics of fundamentalism as an expression of ego’s adherence to such theories, and review mythological and clinical parallels. Lastly, we will explore the phenomena of possession and identification; recognize basic characteristics of Dark religion; and understand where conspiracism and creed overlap.
