The four classes offered in Healing In Depth, Part 2, will look more deeply into those key points introduced in the first lecture: Healing In Depth (the Dynamic of the Gospel of Mark), May 2022.
Four Part Series: Jan 7, Feb 4, Mar 4, & Apr 1, 2023 | Saturdays, 10– 11:30am UTC-4
There it was maintained that:
- The Jesus of Mark’s Gospel should not be identified with either the divine Jesus of the major creeds or the biblical scholars’ “Jesus of history”. Mark, in his gospel, portrays Jesus as one who is continuously present by means of the living interchange between written gospel and participating reader.
- The transformation urged by John the Baptist was for all who came to him, not just Jesus, and thus all were invited into the Exodus-like baptism in order to also realize their original “sonship” with the Source of Life (God, the Self, the Ineffable One)
- This Markan gospel is not only a never-ending narrative in itself, but an ongoing reality, i.e. the Self continues to seek expression through what we fundamentally are.
The overall focus for the present four sessions will be work on the following crucial Markan elements: the role of radical trust (pistis), demon possession and exorcism (including their possible modern equivalents), why (in Mark) the tomb needs to be empty, what it means to call this work a “gospel”, plus other issues as they may arise out of the discussion. Special attention will be given to Mark 11-15, Jesus’ “assault” on the temple, the hard labor of breaking free (from a Past which “enslaves” us) and reclaiming the true Center of our lives.
And finally, how each of these elements may help illuminate for us our pathway toward individuation. A review of the ground covered in the first lecture, The Dynamic of the Gospel of Mark, will be a part of the workshops.
*Please bring your copy of the Gospel of Mark to each class.
