For thousands of years, the Antarctic has been a place in the collective imagination as well as a geographical location. Just as explorers have traveled to those regions in the outer world, poets and writers have explored the polar regions of the soul. Robert Romanyshyn traveled to the Antarctic, after connecting to a dream he had over thirty years ago about a journey to the polar regions of the Earth. As he shares his outer journey – which led him to see the inner world where polar caps are melting and crisis is happening – he reflects on ways to be with our inner nature as well as outer nature.
Part of the lecture includes a 36 minute recording of photos of Robert’s Antarctica trip set to beautiful music. It shows how the body – as an aesthetic response to the world – is the place where psyche becomes nature and nature becomes psyche.
We are one with the outer world, and outer crises are matching our inner crisis. Amongst those crises, is the one of being disconnected from the deeper layers of our soul.
