Overview

This program explores the ways in which shadow is accessed and integrated on a personal and collective level. This presentation includes case material, dreams and quotations from leading Jungian authors; amplified through art images. The concept of shadow will be experienced through a Jungian lens. Jung believed that there is an inherent psychic instinct toward wholeness in each one of us, constellated through the assimilation of shadow and light.

At the end of the program, participants will be able to:

  1. Define three aspects of shadow within the psyche from a depth psychological perspective.
  2. Identify the two ways shadow is projected through the personal and collective valence.
  3. Describe the six elements of Jung’s structure of the psyche in terms of shadow.
  4. Explain the five ways shadow can be accessed through: typology, mistake, somatic responses, dreams and active imagination in terms of individuation.
