‘A Pilgrim in Docs: Sacred Rhythms, Embodied Soul’

A story of emergence, chaos and grace and the wisdom of embodied experience. When a vision of pilgrimage crystallises after a time of illness and retreat, artist Tanja Stark decides to answer the call, boarding a plane days later with little more than a bold idea. Hoping to gently meander the Portuguese Camino making art along the way, she sets out in fake Doctor Marten’s boots (bought spontaneously the night before) into calf deep water, fallen trees and a torrential storm – a symbolic baptism of chaos and flow.
Wondering and wandering ancient paths, each step becomes infused with the archetypal power of sacred rhythms, from the ritual drums of Samhain’s horned beast and the whispered hymns of cloistered nuns, to Nick Cave’s ‘Carnage’ that marches her under moonlight into Santiago, and beyond, to the poignant skirl of bagpipes at sunset on the lighthouse of Costa de Morte. This is a universal story of showing up with courage and curiosity to move forward on roads unknown and allowing spirit to lead the way.
