The current Covid-19 Viral Pandemic is our version of ‘The Plague,’ that metaphorical Pale Horseman of the Apocalypse which conjures not only illness and death but virulent individual and societal transformation brought about by fear of the unknown and the misunderstood. This talk will draw on examples and analysis from Dr. Colman’s ‘listening post”, drawing on artistic, psychiatric, Jungian-analytic and collective consciousness perspectives in order to describe and understand some of the predictable psychological and psychiatric patterns created by all plagues, including our current Covid pandemic. He will also evaluate covid-fueled scapegoating and leadership behaviors as they emerge and intersect with individuals and groups from different cultures and countries (Rwanda, Ivory Coast, Mexico, U.S.) Finally, he will suggest evolving learning and healing pathways from a new multifocal human consciousness which includes a compassionate and objective evaluation of science, art, religion, and other cultural forms, as well as subjective personal and collective depth psychological and spiritual introspection using myth, dreams, active imagination and vision.
