In this seminar, we will explore the somatic unconscious or “subtle body” in theory and practice and examine the value of this work for discovering healing states of consciousness where spirit and body are united in greater psychological harmony. Poly-vagal theory will be introduced as background for learning about self-regulation by deliberate activation of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems in order to create greater well-being.
We will investigate responses to trauma in the nervous system that activate fight, flight, freeze, collapse, and paralysis and explore how we can form new neural pathways through a co-regulated restorative relationship with the sensing body.
We will investigate how body-based reflective and interpersonal work can be brought into relationship with the imagination to amplify healing states of consciousness through the Jungian practice of “active imagination.”
Teachings and insight from Alchemy and Sufism, and from the doorway between life and death will also be used as springboards for discussion and for somatic experiencing.
This workshop follows a Friday lecture.
