Many people face retirement from paid work as they face any liminal time: full of uncertainty, loss of identity, loss of meaning. It may trigger a late-life identity crisis, as we lose past roles and out-worn identities. The perennial question arises again: “Who am I?”

This presentation will explore a depth psychological approach to retirement — from the inside out. It offers shadow-work and contemplative practices to let go, explore liminality, and emerge renewed as we learn to shift our identities from Hero to Elder, from doing to being, from role to soul.

Connie Zweig, author of The Inner Work of Age: Shifting from Role to Soul, and Dorian Mintzer, host of the Revolutionize Retirement podcast, will explore the archetypal shift from Senior to Elder and from role to soul, and how the retirement transition can open the way for this spiritual rite of passage. Moderated by gerontologist Harry (Rick) Moody.
