Love and Feminism: A survey of bell hooks

Discover how love and feminism can guide our daily actions and lived experiences.

Bell hooks (1952-2021), an African American activist, argues that social change happens through radical love. For bells hooks, social change means transforming society to be more equitable. Radical love is transformation through action which starts with a dialogue.

In this workshop, students will understand the history of feminism in the United States from the 1960s to the present through bell hooks’ ideas. The following topics will be covered: conscious-raising groups, the power of the sisterhood, body love, women at work, race and gender, ending violence, feminist masculinity and parenting, liberating marriage, visionary feminism, and radical love.
