Psychosocial Wednesdays: Trauma Denial and Evil – the Power of Cultural Complexes in Israel

On the occasion of the publication of Elana Lakh's latest book (Jungianeum, 2024), the author will engage in a conversation with Noa Feurstein and Stefano Carpani. This book, conceived in the aftermath of the catastrophic events of October 7th, 2023, and their geopolitical consequences, adopts a neo-Jungian approach, aiming to transcend the comfort of a singular, simplified narrative. Elana Lakh asserts that “Israeli society lives in an ongoing traumatic mode of experiencing reality," with this dissociative experience driving much of its denial and disavowal. Lakh offers an understanding of psychological processes within the Israeli society. Lakh's work pushes past theoretical confines, taking her insights to areas of urgent need. Her mission is to foster real, meaningful societal change, embodying the neo-Jungian principle that reflection must lead to action.
  • Brief Overview:

More than a century ago, Freud gathered colleagues for Wednesday meetings that opened the world of psychoanalysis to a wide range of powerful ideas. Psychosocial Wednesdays are modeled on those Wednesdays and on Jung´s meetings at the Psychological Club, and feature speakers from various psychoanalytic traditions, schools, and associated fields.
