Psychosocial Wednesdays: Who is the Patient here?

What happens when the therapist becomes the patient—and when the whole world seems to need therapy? Jungian analyst Tom Singer joins us for our next Psychosocial Wednesday to celebrate the republication of his 1978 classic, Who’s the Patient Here? Portraits of the Young Psychotherapist, by JUNGIANEUM. In his book, Singer turned the analytic lens on the young psychotherapist, revealing that the real “patient” is often the healer in training. Nearly fifty years later, his question takes on new resonance: as our world faces psychological fragmentation, ecological grief, and collective disorientation, might it be the world itself that’s on the couch? Singer invites us to reflect on how the struggles of the individual psyche mirror those of our global community—and what healing might mean when the patient is all of us.

  • Brief Overview

More than a century ago, Freud gathered colleagues for Wednesday meetings that opened the world of psychoanalysis to a wide range of powerful ideas. Psychosocial Wednesdays are modeled on those Wednesdays and on Jung´s meetings at the Psychological Club, and feature speakers from various psychoanalytic traditions, schools, and associated fields.
