Resourcing Through Somatic Movement and Creative Expressive Arts

Integrating principles from somatic psychology, depth psychology, and expressive arts modalities, this workshop is intended as an introduction to some of the ways in which somatic and visual modalities can facilitate access to implicit processes that may not be easily verbalized. Through direct experience and reflective writing, participants will have the opportunity to learn how somatic and visual modalities can serve as tools for giving form to inner experience through symbolic expression. No prior art or movement/dance experience is needed.  Art materials will be provided.  Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a journal for reflective writing.

  • Brief Overview

    Learning Objectives:

Demonstrate at least two somatic movement and image-making interventions that support self-regulation, creative insight, and embodied therapeutic attunement.
Analyze kinesthetic sensations of the body and nonverbal behavior to identify how the integration of creative arts and somatic expression can help identify emotional states and increase self-awareness
Give an example of how the creative arts and somatic expression can be helpful when addressing psychosomatic symptoms
Give an example of how expressing bodily perceptions through the image-making process can help individuals identify and differentiate feeling states
Give an example of how integrating experiential and reflective practices in the context of psychotherapy can help individuals identify feeling states
