“And in the number of the army of horsemen were two hundred thousand: and I heard the number of them. And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone.”
(Book of Revelation, Chapter 9, verses 15 & 16)
“In itself, an archetype is neither good nor evil. It is morally neutral, like the gods of antiquity, and becomes good or evil only by contact with the conscious mind, or else a paradoxical mixture of both. Whether it will be conducive to good or evil is determined, knowingly or unknowingly, by the conscious attitude…Whenever conscious life becomes one-sided or adopts a false attitude, these images “instinctively” rise to the surface in dreams and in the visions of artists and seeks to restore the psychic balance, whether of the individual or of the epoch.” – (C.G. Jung. CW 15. Par. 160)
In this course, The Archetype pf the Apocalypse, Part 1 on Racism, participants will gain an historical and depth psychological understanding of racism and slavery in the United States over the last 400 years and 12 generations. The idea of a racial complex will be explored along with the historical roots of this complex which was traumatically introjected into the American Psyche via the false constructs of race and caste. It will be argued that this conspiracy theory, successfully promoted by wealthy white landowners in the United States in the 17th century, has effectively controlled both black slaves and their descendants and poor white people; up to and including the present. Suggestions to de-construct the conspiracy theories of both race and caste will be explored, including a discussion regarding reparations to black descendants of slaves as one effective way to begin healing the American psyche from the historical ravages of race, caste and slavery.
In this course, participants will explore what we are witnessing in the present time in human history, in the 2020’s; namely a vortex of intersecting pandemics – jolting revelations that are unfolding with a terrific energy and force – so much so that we cannot ignore them or escape them. These include the world-wide pandemics of racism, Covid-19, and climate change. This presentation argues that all of these swirling pandemics are manifestations of the archetype of the apocalypse, which is constellating now in a very powerful way. A multi-layered intersecting set of challenges such as this has never yet occurred in human history. We must therefore be very alert to what is going on, and as to how we can consciously mediate these threats, both individually and collectively. In The Archetype of the Apocalypse, Part 1 on Racism, participants will gain an historical and depth psychological understanding of racism and slavery in the United States over the last 400 years and 12 generations. The idea of a racial complex will be explored along with the historical roots of this complex which was traumatically introjected into the American Psyche via the false constructs of race and caste.
Learning Objectives:
At the end of the program, participants will be able to:
- Define the meanings of archetype and apocalypse and explain why this archetype is constellating nationally and globally at the present time in our history.
- Explain how each of the false constructs of race and slavery from both an historical and depth psychological perspective, lead to a false justification for slavery.
- Analyze the notion of a Racial Complex as described by Jungian analyst and author Fanny Brewster and describe two ways we can get to the root of this problem within an American context.
- Describe two methods of reparations for the descendants of Black slaves and how they can be effective starting point in the healing process of this huge wound within the American psyche, caused by racism and slavery.
