Marie-Louise von Franz, a pioneer in depth psychology, and a collaborator and colleague of C. G. Jung for nearly 30 years, was often heard to say that fairy tales are all the psychology we need to live. Recognizing fairy tales as the blueprint or skeleton of the psyche, in this lecture Jungian analyst and storyteller Muriel McMahon will offer up the tools for archetypal fairy tale analysis. The ground beneath our feet is shifting, we need to turn to the fairy tale, perhaps now more than ever before, to provide a reliable orient.
Workshop: Gravediggers in Times of Transition, Fairy Tales and the Archetypal Dimension of Psyche | Saturday 10am – 1pm
Jack Zipes, renowned translator and scholar of literature and culture, calls on we lovers of fairy stories to “become gravediggers.” He entreats us to dig into the remote past and resurrect the lost stories. Join us with spade and pick axe as we open the vault into the archetypal dimension of psyche. Choosing stories that speak to and for our times, we will explore how the pattern of reality, the pattern of psyche, the pattern of transformation is ever-present for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. To become pattern readers of the faery realm is to find the hidden secret that unlocks the timeless soul that is our legacy.
