The 13th International Bion Conference, Vertices on the Unthinkable: Engaging Bion Today, will take place from June 4–8, 2025, at The New School for Social Research’s University Center, starting at 2pm on June 4 and ending at 12pm on June 8. Co-sponsored by the NYU Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis, the Contemporary Freudian Society, and the Philosophy Department of The New School, this event investigates W.R. Bion’s clinical thinking, focusing on states of mind where thought and experience are challenged. Bion’s work, which cautions against overly broad interpretations of psychosis, emphasizes a “microscopic” perspective closer to raw experience and explores communicating the “ineffable” through diverse lenses—philosophy, physics, poetry, art, mathematics, and mysticism. The conference invites contributions examining Bion’s use of multiple “vertices” to unlock unthinkability and originary experience. Online pre-conference seminars begin March 16, 2025, with registration open for both pre-conference groups and the full conference. You can also click here to see the full programme schedule.
