Democracy on the Couch: Jungian Insights into Peace and Conflict

24-25 May, online

Can humanity live peacefully, and if not, what stands in the way? Inspired by C.G. Jung’s The Undiscovered Self, the The 1st JUNGIANEUM/Biennale conference examines psychological and societal barriers to peace. A stellar lineup of speakers, including Steve Aizenstat, Stefano Carpani, Andrew Samuels, Murray Stein, and Polly Young-Eisendrath, will explore the intersection of depth psychology, politics, and conflict.

Set for late next month, this event confronts the persistent reality of war, drawing on cultural references like British band Archive’s We Are Disintegration and The Cure’s Warsong, alongside James Hillman’s view of war as both a human creation and an inhuman horror. It challenges Jungian analysts to consider their role in a polarized world—should they engage in activism, or foster a deeper communitas beyond binaries?

You can attend Jungeaneum’s Psychosocial Wednesdays event, U.S Democracy In Transition – A Jungian Perspective, this Wednesday, 16 April with Betty Sue Flowers.
