The Journal of Analytical Psychology together with the Society of Analytical Psychology is hosting another Meet the Author event, featuring Leigh Money presenting her Michael Fordham Prize-winning paper, Labels and the Self: Identity Labels as Scaffold, published in the Journal of Analytical Psychology in 2023. The paper explores how self-adopted identity labels—such as “neurodiverse,” “genderfluid,” “sex-positive,” “ADHD,” and “highly-sensitive”—function both as tools for personal growth and as potential defenses. Money uses clinical examples to illustrate how labels can facilitate new development but also serve as shields that prevent deeper self-exploration.
