Jane Wheelwright started her first journal when she was 8 years old, and maintained this habit throughout her life. She began her last journal in 1986, when she was 81 and wrote in it for 14 years, until she became blind in 1995 and could no longer read her handwriting.[2] A major theme running through this last journal is aging, as Jane hoped to leave others advice about old age based on her personal experience and her observations of other aging people.
