Chiron publishers have just publised the newest volume in the series of the Collected Writings of Murray Stein,  Psychology and Society, Volume 10 which brings together essays exploring the intricate relationship between individuals and collective groups—from families and tribes to religious communities and nations.

The volume examines how psychology permeates all levels of human interaction, ranging from the father’s mediating role between family and society to reflections on the collective psyche in postmodern times. The series, published by Chiron Publications, represents nearly five decades of Stein’s scholarship. Volume 1, Individuation, explores the central Jungian concept of psychological development and self-realization. Volume 2, Myth and Psychology, examines archetypal figures from classical mythology, including Cronos, Hephaistos, and Narcissus. Volume 3, Transformation, investigates developmental processes in cultural icons like Rilke, Rembrandt, and Jung himself. Volume 4, The Practice of Jungian Psychoanalysis, offers practical guidance on analytical techniques, including transference, countertransference, and dream interpretation. Volumes 5 and 6 address Analytical Psychology and Christianity and Analytical Psychology and Religion, examining Jung’s complex relationship with Christian theology and religious experience more broadly. Volume 7 tackles The Problem of Evil, while Volume 8 focuses on Psychology and Spirituality. Volume 9, Jungian Studies, presents late essays circling familiar Jungian themes within today’s globalised cultural space.

In the video Murray Stein – on Legacy, Stein reflects on the multi-dimensional nature of legacy with Luis Moris, viewing it as a combination of personal memories, professional impact, and institutional growth. He begins by discussing family legacy, emphasising the importance of shared experiences and the transmission of spirit over material inheritance. Professionally, he considers the “deep imprint” left on patients through the analytical process and the preservation of his ideas through his collected writings and textbooks. Stein also details his extensive work in expanding Jungian psychology globally, highlighting his leadership in the IAAP and his efforts to establish training programs in Russia and China during pivotal historical shifts. He ultimately uses the metaphor of a “philosophical tree” to describe the lineage of depth psychology, explaining how it roots modern individuals in ancient wisdom like Alchemy and Gnosticism to foster a connection with the collective unconscious and the divine.
