The Political Ghost and the Wounded Healer: New Directions in Analytical Psychology

Rivista di Psicologia Analitica Volume 111/2025

The latest issue of the Rivista di Psicologia Analitica presents a comprehensive dialogue (in Italian) between clinical depth and contemporary social challenges. The collection begins by exploring the fundamental parameters of the therapeutic relationship, with Barbara Massimilla examining Beyond the boundaries of care and Adelia Lucattini investigating the “detour” from psychic caesura to symbolisation. These clinical inquiries are extended into the modern socio-political sphere by Chiara Buoncristiani and Tommaso Romani, who discuss the role of analytical creativity and the “political ghost” in non-binary gender situations.

The journal places a strong emphasis on the psychological realities of trauma and severe pathology. Clementina Pavoni analyses the narration of trauma in the work of Hisham Matar, while Giovanna Capello offers insights into “brutalist” adolescences and the analytical encounter. Within the realm of severe cases, Greta Melli explores the transformative experience of the “wounded healer,” and Valerio Colangeli addresses the ethical and clinical aspects of confronting the Shadow when working with psychosis. These perspectives are complemented by Giulio Caselli’s phenomenological reflection on “white psychoses” and Ester Patruno’s poetic meditation on the non-linear, sea-like nature of the psyche.

Finally, the publication bridges traditional philosophy with modern existential crises. Laura Rosella Schluderer traces the “harmonic psyche” from Greek philosophers to Jung, providing a historical anchor for modern distress. This distress is examined in its current forms by Andrea Arrighi, who looks at the dark side of video-images in adolescence, and Luigino Bruni, who critiques the impact of “aesthetic capitalism” and consumption. The issue concludes with Massimo Rossi’s examination of contemporary absence, including mental automatism and “remote presence,” and Simone Colafranceschi’s look at creativity within the mirror of school workshops.
