‘Everyone is talking about Christopher Nolan’s new adaptation of The Odyssey. In this episode of the podcast I am speaking with Jungian psychoanalyst Michael Vannoy Adams about the Odyssey. Michael taught a course “Psychoanalyzing Greek and Roman Mythology” at the New School in New York for many years and at the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, Adams taught the course “Mythology and Psychology in the Odyssey and the Aeneid.”
Michael Vannoy Adams is a Jungian psychanalyst in New York, where he is a faculty member at the New York University Postdoctoral Program in Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis.
Adams is the author of four books – among them, The Mythological Unconscious. “One of the most radical discoveries of Freud and Jung,” Adams says, “is that the unconscious is ‘mythological’ – the ancient gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines, and fabulous creatures are alive and well in the psyches of modern men and women.” At , the New School for Social Research the famous progressive university in New York, Adams was associate provost, director of a Psychoanalytic Studies Program, and faculty member for three decades. Among the courses he taught for many years at the New School was “Psychoanalyzing Greek and Roman Mythology”. At the Jungian Psychoanalytic Association, Adams taught the course “Mythology and Psychology in the Odyssey and the Aeneid.”’.
