Shakespeare, in this excerpt from Sonnet 18, exemplifies the psychic connection between man and the seasons. Indeed, all literature has used nature as a metaphor for the journey of life. In art, it predates Jung by 30,000 years. However, Jung’s insights gave this connection a lived experience and consequently helped individuals reexamine themselves in the arena of thought and self-consciousness. This philosophy, combined with an in situ landscape art meditation during Saturday’s excursion at Historic Spanish Point, mediates the distance between being alone in thought and being in communication with ancient archetypes experienced in nature. This lecture and workshop will combine Jung’s view of the connection of “nature as a private experience” and landscape art (in all mediums) as a universal one.

Trolley Tour: “Visionary Dreams: How Nature and Art Influenced Sarasota’s Founders” | Saturday 9am
During the trolley ride to Historic Spanish Point, Tammy Hauser, C. G. Jung Society of Sarasota member and founder of Discover Sarasota Tours will discuss “Visionary Dreams: How Nature and Art Influenced Sarasota’s Leading Founders.” Going backwards in time, from Sarasota to Spanish Point, this historic overview will explore the influences that nature and art had on three of Sarasota’s founding dreamers, doers, and showman: Marie Selby, Bertha Palmer, and John Ringling. Tammy also will incorporate, through a Jungian lens, signs, symbols and archetypal patterns that influenced these local leaders.
