A Jungian Lens on Neurodiversity: Theoretical and Clinical Aspects

AJA conference happening next weekend

The Association of Jungian Analysts (AJA)  along with the Independent Group of Analytical Psychologists (IGAP) and The Guild of Analytical Psychologists (GAP) invites qualified psychotherapists, psychiatrists, and analysts to a three-day hybrid seminar, “On Neurodiversity: Theoretical and Clinical Aspects,” running from Friday, November 28th to Sunday, November 30th. This professional development event aims to address the common issue of neurodiversity often remaining unrecognised in clinical practices, providing a Jungian-focused exploration. Attendees will gain a richer theoretical understanding and practical experience in working with neurodiverse individuals by examining the predispositions, essential dynamics, and hierarchy of needs within the analytical setting. Sessions explore psychological and philosophical aspects of diagnoses, exploration of psychiatric classifications, and, crucially, address differential diagnoses of presentations—knowledge vital for contemporary practice.

The program begins on Friday evening with Leigh Money discussing “Labels and the Self: Identity Labels as Scaffold.” The following day, Saturday, which is a hybrid event held at the AJA premises and online, features: Gail Bennett will discuss the “Archetypal and Energetic Aspects of ADHD: Puer and Puella,” followed by Spyros Karvounis on the “Psychological Aspects in the Configuration of the Autistic Spectrum.” The afternoon continues with Linda Freeman sharing the “personal journey of an analyst” concerning dyslexia and dyspraxia, and then a practical presentation of ADHD and Autism Spectrum in Images, Dreams, and Case Studies by Gail Bennett and others. The Saturday concludes with a session on Clinical Presentations and Therapeutics featuring Arthur Niesser, Gail Bennett, Linda Freeman, and Spyros Karvounis.

The seminar concludes on Sunday with two key online sessions: Prof. Michael Craig will present on “Neurodiversity and Sex Differences: Biological Insights and Clinical Implications,” and Spyros Karvounis, Gail Bennett, and colleagues will conduct a vital discussion on “Differential Diagnoses,” covering distinctions from introversion/extraversion, PD, Bipolar, OCD, and other presentations.

You can sign up for this important event for a very reasonable £45, here.
