Presentation: Narrative Themes | Friday, May 6, 2022 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
This seminar will involve a discussion of the major narrative themes of Jung’s Red Book (Liber Novus) and a meditation upon his painted images. Our primary goal on Friday evening will be to understand the narrative structure of The Red Book and the relevance of Jung’s encounter with his soul to the work on the psyche and the individuation process. We will also consider the ethical and theological implications of Jung’s Red Book project and examine how The Red Book provides a key to understanding the collective unconscious, the shadow, the anima, and other major themes in Jung’s Collected Works.
Workshop: The Paintings | Saturday, May 7, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon.
Saturday’s workshop will provide an opportunity to meditate on and discuss The Red Book paintings. We will examine how these paintings both illustrate and go beyond the work’s narrative themes, focusing in particular upon those paintings which illustrate Jung’s response to “the death of God,” and those which explore the myth of the dragon-slaying hero
