With Ukrainian Jungians: Relaunch Event

Tuesday, 10 February, 6pm London time (8pm Kyiv)

As the fourth anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches, the With Ukrainian Jungians (WUJ) will host an official relaunch. The relaunch centres on a virtual gathering, titled “How are you? як справи?” This theme was inspired by Director Catherine Cox’s recent visits to front-line cities like Mykolaiv, where local therapists emphasised that this simple, human inquiry remains the most important question they can be asked. The relaunch arrives at a perilous moment as colleagues endure temperatures of minus 16 degrees without power or water due to infrastructure bombardment. Rather than a formal academic session, this is an intimate gathering that focuses on  deep listening, reinforcing the message that the global Jungian community still holds their Ukrainian counterparts in their hearts and minds.

Founded in February 2022, WUJ began as an international ad hoc collective of analysts, therapists, and mental health professionals who gathered to stand in support of colleagues facing cultural erasure and the immediate horrors of war. Supported by figures such as Ann Ulanov, Murray Stein, and Donald Kalsched, the organisation has grown from a rapid-response group into a sophisticated lifeline. By providing a space for clinical supervision, webinar series, and social dreaming matrices, WUJ has become what many Ukrainian members describe as a “light in the dark” during their country’s most difficult hours.

Since its inception, WUJ has built a legacy of witness through an impressive array of resources designed to alleviate intergenerational trauma. This includes a series of 16 international webinars (archived for free via ARAS) which paired eminent global analysts with Ukrainian counterparts to discuss themes ranging themes. Beyond these educational efforts, the organisation has facilitated fortnightly supervision groups led by Donald Kalsched, allowing Ukrainian practitioners a space of psychological refuge and compassionate witness amid the ongoing violence in their communities.

Looking further into 2026, the WUJ calendar is filled with events that continue to highlight the resilience and creativity of the Ukrainian spirit. In late January and February, seminars will explore the archetypes of Ukrainian women in war and share dispatches from the front lines, while June will see a pioneering conference in Moldova. Additionally, the organisation continues to support cultural resistance through collaborations with artists like concert pianist Sasha Grynyuk, whose performances preserve Ukrainian musical heritage. As WUJ relaunches, it remains a volunteer-led effort that relies on international donations to provide the interpreters and technical support necessary to keep these vital connections alive.
